“Chattagram Samity UK, officially commenced with an Inaugural Ceremony on the 9th of July 1995.”
The Chattagram Samity UK is a non-profit charitable organisation established to promote community development, educational achievement, and fulfil the social and cultural needs of Chittagonians in the United Kingdom. Additionally, it serves the interests of their friends and neighbours who have connections to or an interest in Chittagong. The organisation operates without distinction based on race, gender, religion, language, nationality, or political and other opinions.
Historically, the ‘Chattagram Samity’ was established in Calcutta, West Bengal, India, with the objective of addressing the social, cultural, and educational needs of Chittagonians residing there. Following its success, the demand for similar establishments was recognised in other countries. Today, the Samity is a global organisation uniting Chittagonians who provide humanitarian services, promote high ethical standards across all vocations, and contribute to the promotion of goodwill and peace worldwide.
Our Mission and Vision
Through a diverse array of initiatives, our organisation is dedicated to promoting and preserving Chittagonian values and culture within the United Kingdom. By implementing socio-cultural projects, we aim to broaden the cultural knowledge of young Britons, enrich their cultural experiences, and ensure they remain connected to their cultural heritage. Our organisation actively encourages Chittagonians to exchange perspectives and address common interests pertaining to life in the UK, as well as issues of significance in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
What we hope to achieve
Provide a forum for Chittagonians residing in the United Kingdom to exchange views on matters of common interest, including topics related to life in the UK and issues of importance to them and their families and friends in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
Our organisation seeks to provide information and activities that benefit the community, advance education, and foster understanding and interaction between people from different regions of Bangladesh and diverse cultures within the United Kingdom. To achieve these objectives, we aim to:
- Hold seminars on socio-cultural topics relevant to both the UK and Bangladesh in general, and Chittagong in particular;
- Observe and celebrate national and international days;
- Organise discussion sessions or meetings to offer visitors and students from Bangladesh an introduction to the country and the community, including information and advice on how to maximise their visit or study period in the UK;
- Support and counsel students seeking higher professional, technical, or academic studies as well as job experience;
- Provide general counselling, welfare, and legal advice;
- Produce and disseminate literature that promotes the tourist attractions and prospects of Chittagong, specifically, and Bangladesh, generally.
Advance education regarding good citizenship within a multi-racial, multicultural society, and promote harmonious relationships among individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Associate with local authorities, voluntary organisations, and community members in a collective effort to advance education and provide facilities for recreational and leisure activities, with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for all.
Strive towards the establishment of a centre to facilitate the support activities of the Samity, and ultimately aim to create a permanent centre for the Samity.
Engage in any activities deemed appropriate by the management committee to pursue and achieve the objectives of the Samity.
